Disaster
In a Cave began as a quickly sketched
custom wallpaper for the desktop that was done in a small paint program
since forgotten. It remained in a rudimentary condition until being reborn
as an illustrator project to improve skill in combining Illustrator and
Photoshop features.
A template was made and used for tracing in Illustrator. Illustrator provided the first colors and gradients, but texture was needed. There was also the the problem of how to visually express the boy dropping his flashlight. Photo Shop resolved both problems and then some by first applying filters for texture plus using the lens flare and Guassian Blur to spiffy up the lighting.
The second problem was tackled by duplicating the flashlight
on several different layers and then changing size and
transparency to gain the effect of the flashlight falling from
the boy's outstretched hand.
